    Visual Basic (VB 6 )

I am getting an extra person assigned to my dept. and we are looking at having them work with VB6. What is the minimum software we need to get them to build "applications". I guess in other words do we need to buy a full copy if VB Suite or can we just purchase a stripe down VB to do the work.

At a minimum, you need VB6 Professional. That gives you the developer's tools like the Packaging and Deployment Wizard and the license to redistribute the ActiveX controls that come with VB6. It also includes a copy of Visual Source Safe, but I can't remember whether it comes with CodeLibrarian or if that only comes with Office Developer and with Visual Studio.

Code Librarian comes ONLY with Office Developer.

I was under the impresssion it also came with Visual Studio. Was I wrong? Certainly, the XP version of CodeLibrarian is much more development framework oriented than a simple code store.

Well, it wasn't included in my Enterprise copy of VS6, and I do remember being delighted when I found that it worked with VB6. It did come, however, on the O2K Developer Edition CD in the MSDN subscription. It also was not available until well after VS6 was released.

Maybe there was a "coupon freebie" at some stage - there were quite a few at that time. AFAIK, otherwise, your memory may be playing tricks with you.

Off-topic, would your advice also be to do a "double-dongle" and run OXP on WinXP? Subject to future client requirements, O2K on Win2K (with a O97 separate boot) seems to fulfill the bulk of my current requirements.

I have VB 6 Enterprise. AFAIK, it did not come with Code Librarian.

But Code Librarian runs separately anyway, not tied to Office, so you can include other code.

The version that comes with OXP developer is even more "separate" than the O2k version.
