    HTML Non-breaking spaces (O2K SP2)

Whenever I am composing a message using HTML stationery, Outlook insists on inserting a non-breaking space for every space I put in the message. All I want are normal spaces. Is this some snafu in the stationery template that needs to be fixed?

i'm not sure i follow what the problem is. nbsp is standard html and used everywhere except within lines of text, since you can't have standalong spaces for proper rendering in html.

or are you saying the the space between each word is replaced with nbsp? like:

    Whenever<nbsp>I<nbsp>am<nbsp>composing<nbsp>a<nbsp >message

    (i can't use the correct code inthe example or it will be rendered <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>)

That is precisely the problem. I'm attaching a sample generated by typing "test test test[CR]test test test[CR]" in an otherwise blank message, where Outlook generated divisions and spans and other stuff, completely unwanted. It is even splitting the words at times! <img src=/S/brickwall.gif border=0 alt=brickwall width=25 height=15> It makes absolutely no sense at all, and this is also a farily recent development.

did you switch editors? (word to/from outlook)
did it start after you upgraded to sp2? IE6? install FP?

The spans and extra garbage is normal - same with the style sheet info in the first post. I thought it was in all versions of outlook, but it's possible an updated HTML engine is creating it for you.

"did you switch editors? (word to/from outlook)" - no
"did it start after you upgraded to sp2? IE6? install FP?" - no

I have been installing the windows updates (Win98) and security patches. Office has not been updated in quite some time. I also try to keep my office system and my home system pretty much in equilibrium, yet I have not noticed this when composing email at home.

All in all, it's not a big problem - I just copy & paste to Notepad and back and all the nbsp's get put back as normal spaces - but it would be much nicer if it didn't happen at all.
