status bar (Windows XP)

Hi all,
I just installed XP and I noticed that by default, the status bar is not showing when I opened a new window, whether from Explorer or My Computer. And I have to go to the view menu to activate the status bar. Is there anyway I can make it to show everytime I open a new window?

<P ID="edit" class=small>Edited by WyllyWylly on 25-Apr-02 02:12.</P>Hi Dream--

For information, try the following: <UL><LI>http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/n1014733111<LI>http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/3539/xpstatus.htm
http://www.annoyances.org is a good resource as is the new book by O'Reilly Windows XP in a Nutshell
from the Annoyances of Windows Flavors Series. The book will come up on the annoyances site--click on
Windows XP on the left column of the opening page.

Thanks and I hope you find the fix here.

Defrag - slightly off topic - but I was not able to send you a PM with these pointers on creating links in your original post (which I edited to add markup):
<hr>My sincerest apologies that I have not learned the fundamental skill of making these sites into a hyperlink;
I promised to do it last month and didn't get it done--will make it a point next few days, but you can paste
these url's.<hr>
If you click on the link next to the subject box when you are making a post, it will pop up a window with several options. There are two buttons for creating a hyperlink. They both appear as a globe with a link of chain on them.

<IMG SRC=http://www.wopr.com/w3timages/url1.gif> <IMG SRC=http://www.wopr.com/w3timages/url2.gif>

Clicking on the icons will create a statement in your post using markup.

Re: status bar (Windows XP)

Thanks for your above links but they are not really relevant to my post. The 1st one is talking about the status bar in IE6, which happens to be working fine for me. I'm more concerned about the status bar in normal windows, such as one opened in the windows explorer or my computer. As for the 2nd link, I can't seem to make any sense of it, other than it seems to be an external program to configure the status bar. I shall have a further look at the annoyances.org to see if I can find any good solutions to the problem.

set the folder as you want, icon size and status bar etc. the tools | options and set all folders to be the same view.

also, if you open windows explorer and turn on the status bar then close the window before opening another window, it should be turned on for all winodws opened in the future.

Actually I just noticed that now when I opened a new explorer window, the status bar is finally showing, so I guess I must have somehow tried the 2nd approach of yours by chance. Anyway thanks for the help.
