16 month old problem (WXp Officew XP)

Over the years, I've told countless beginners not to worry , play with your computer - you can't break anything. Well, that's no doubt still true, but "break" is a funny word.

Thing is, my 16 month old granddaughter was smooshing away at my keyboard, and all sorts of fun things were happening. But, when I cleaned it all up and went on to work, a couple of things kept happening.

First, whenever I start an Office program, it wants to initialize my voice recognition program. I've searched all over and can't find where to turn this off.

The second thing is that whenever I close Outlook, I am informed that Microsoft Visual basic macros had been turned off.

My little darling somehow managed to find settings I didn't know existed. I've since bought her a Winnie the Pooh program designed for tots who smoosh keyboards. so much for "you can't do harm."

    All help appreciated.

    Thanks, Michael

Start | Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Microsoft Office XP... from the list | Change button | Add or Remove Features... radio button | Next button.

    1. Click on + sign left of Office Shared Features, then on + next to Alternate User Input. Click on "Speech" and from pop-up menu choose "Unavailable".
    2. Click on + sign left of Microsoft Outlook, then click on Visual Basic Scripting Support and from pop-up menu choose "Run from My Computer".

Insert your Office XP Installation CD into your CD-ROM drive and click "Update" button.

    Have a nice day!

Thank you! The speech recognition part worked fine. But, I still get a message:

"The macros in this project are disabled..." whenever I close OL.

I don't have Office XP (I'm using Windows 2000+Office 2000 at work, Windows XP+Office 2000 at home), so this answer may be irrelevant, but can you check the macro security setting? In Word 2000 (or, with a message open if you use Word 2000 for your e-mail editor) you look in Tools | Macro | Security...
