Currency format problem (Excel 2000 SP2)

I have a PC running W2K SP2. The Regional options are set to English UK. In Excel when I format a number in the cell as a currency using the FORMAT/CELLS/Currency option it is displayed with a pound sign, if I use the currency button from the toolbar the US$ currency is displayed. How can I get the currency button to format the number with a pound sign?

    Many thanks

Try checking Format|Styles|Currency. The Currency icon is usually driven by that. Also, the "Currency" icon actually draws its format from the Accounting format in Format|Cells. HTH
