    msnp32.dll

Have recently installed windows 98 onto my new PC. The install went fine, but now, every time I boot up, I get a message saying "msnp32.dll can't be found and some or all of MS Networking may not be available" The file is there, in c:windowssystem, but windows is obviously looking for it somewhere else. I also don't get a network neighbourhood icon.
As I'm trying to link 2 PC's and share at least the printer, I'd appreciate any help in clearing this up.

Go through the steps that you have done to make the network connection and also list the hardware you are using.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    1. Clean install of win98 on new machine. Don't recall getting any funny messages during the install. On next boot (and every boot thereafter) get the message about not finding msnp32.dll, which IS there in windowssystem. No network neighbourhood icon on desktop.
    2. Removed onboard ethernet card (settingssystem) and rebooted, letting windows reinstall. No difference.
    3. Reinstalled windows networking off windows cd, no difference.

Is the Windows CD one that came with the machine (restore type) or a retail copy?

You may not have all of the drivers for the onboard NIC if it is a Retail copy.

What kind (brand) of machine is it?

It's a retail copy, but I also have a cd with all the drivers, that came with the machine.
It is a clone, purchased from an outfit called mdg. It is a SIS (?) motherboard, and the driver for the onboard Ethernet card is SiS 900.

Download and install the latest version of your NIC driver from

"cd with all the drivers" so what OS are these drivers for? If they are NOT for XP you will need to get them from the OEM, (mdg).
