    Excel 2000 and Visio 5 (XL2000/VisioPro5)

Well, I screwed things up. I have Excel 2000 and Visio Professional 5 running on my WinNt4 PC. I have a Visio button on Excel. A co-worker sent me an Excel SS. When I open it, it says there is a macro and do I want to enable or disable it. Co-worker didn't think he had a macro associated with SS. I checked for possible virus; no problem there. If I enable or disable macro, the SS will open and I can use it. In checking in the Tools|Macros dialog box it only shows Visio macros. Well I deleted them (and no way to retrieve them). Now, when I open a new SS, instead of getting Book1, I get "Insert Visio Button.xls". I can close the "visio" file and click on New SS and an empty Book 1 comes up. Anyone have any ideas how I get rid of the "Insert Visio Button.xls" and only open up with empty Book1? Where might I find where this file association with Excel is located? TIA

Sounds like you may have an unwanted template. Try going to WinntProfiles[yourprofile]Application DataMicrosoftTemplates and see if there are any files there with an .xlt extension. If so, try moving them out of that folder and see if your problem goes away.

If that works, try putting the files back into the folder until the problem starts again. The culprit may be named Book.xlt.

If not, then try File|New.... in Excel and see if there are any other .xlt files still there. Then use {F3} to search your hard drive to see in which folder they might be. If the file has ended up in an "All Users" profile (unlikely), you will need Administrator rights to move it. HTH

When you install Visio it asks if you want to have a button added to Excel/Word to launch visio from that application. If you say yes then the macro you mention is added. Should you wnat this back you may need to re-install Visio.
