    Missing Office Help Files

For some reason unknown to me, I am suddenly missing the help files in all my Office 2000 Pro applications. I have version SR-1. I've tried running Detect and Repair, but that does nothing, and if I try to reinstall SR-1, it tells me it's already installed.

Do I need to uninstall and reinstall? And what, then, is the sequence? I seem to recall reading about some difficulties in uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2000, like, what sequence to follow, and also issues dealing with the protection feature of Office 2K. Any ideas?

It has been a while since I installed Office, but I think there is an option to install or not install the help files. You should be able to just run Setup again, from the original Office CD not from the SR-1 CD, and select the options to add new features and add the help files. You should not have to reinstall SR-1 after doing this if this is the only feature you add.

Yep, I tried that, too, as well as trying to run repair from the original CD-ROM. They all reported they were successful installs, but I still can't access any help files.

What are the exact symptoms/error messages you are getting.

eg. Press F1 in an O2K app and what happens?

One other test. Start|Find|Files or Folders for "*.chm".

You should see a lot of CHM files listed in an ...Office... directory. eg. "Outlhlp9.chm" is the Outlook 2000 help file.

Double Click or Right-Click|Open a help file. If this does not work then the problem is with your Help System.

You probably need the Html Help Update.
    Go to http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/tools/ht...hp/download.htm and
    Select the hhupd.exe link.
