    Ooops...re-mark Unread? (2000/SR1)

Thinking I had pressed Enter to open a message, I pressed Alt+E E to edit and accidentally set all the message in my Inbox to Read.

Undo, of course, is not an option. I searched on the Modification time, but marking read apparently does not count because the modification times were not updated.

Any ideas on restoring the unread status of (several hundred randomly distributed) unread messages, other than looking at last night's backup?

Not sure why sorting by the Received field and bulk choosing "Mark As Unread" won't work - followed by a resort on Priority flag - if relevant. Perhaps you have a "hunt and peck" style for reading - based on other rules, but it could be a start. HTH

The 15% unread among the 2,200 messages are rather randomly distributed. I just can't believe the information could evaporate so easily and permanently...and that I never accidentally did this before...

But if you use the Advanced Find function you can choose as many Mail folders as you like. The Received field and the Mark as Unread right-click are both defaults. HTH

unfortunately previous read states or the time they were changed is not saved, it's just a mapi flag that is changed. even undo can't undo it.

Actually, that's 2,200 messages just in the Inbox! <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15> It looks as though I should just do some Spring cleaning and get rid of the old stuff rather than trying to determine whether I ever looked at it in the first place.
