    Adding Fields in a form

Hello, I need some help. I have a computer order form in my website that I have created drop down fields for. EX: System Type: p41.7ghz($599) and other choices then on the other fields below it are upgrades that may be added to the system. I am trying to get the fields to add together and I am not sure how to assign the amounts in the drop down menu. I need a total to appear on the same page and then all the info from the fields chosen along with the total to pass to another page which they would enter their personal information and tax and shipping would be calculated. I am then going to pass the grand total to a service like Authorize.net

    Thanks,
    Neil

Can you provide more information - i.e. what software or platform are you using (ASP/PHP/Dreamweaver/FrontPage, etc...)?

Do you want the total to add immediately on the same page (such as using Javascript) or do you want to submit the page before returning with the totals (such as with ASP)?

Re: Adding Fields in a form

I created the web in Frontpage 2000 but I have Visual Studio if I want. I believe what I am looking for is ASP... I would like the total to add immediately on the same page and then pass the information from the fields chosen and the total to another page where the customer can enter their personal info and then send that page to a company like authorize.net for credit card proccessing.

    Thanks

Re: Adding Fields in a form

You're going to have to use Client side scripting (either JavaScript or VBScript) to perform any immediate calculation. JavaScript is much more widely supported.

You'll need some kind of server based application to receive and store the results. Visual Studio (either 6 or .NET) will allow you to create this kind of application.

If you're new to writing ASP and/or JavaScript code, you're in for a bit of a shock. This kind of application usually takes quite a bit of dirty code work. Your needs have far surpassed the intended use of FrontPage.

Re: Adding Fields in a form

I have written some basic VBscripts for my other website but I have never done a drop down boxs with different choices and different $ values and I have never done a calculation on the same page. Is there a place I can go to find what I need to know to write this thing. I have a shopping cart for my site in asp but I need the systems page to do calculation before it is added to the cart. Also I need the choices to be passed to the cart so that it shows the options chosen. I have Visual Studio 6 and I knew it was out of the Frontpage realm. Most things are out of the Front Page Realm. Don;t mind writing code if I knew what to write.......lol

    Thanks
