    Autoformat (2000/2002)

Is there any way to defeat the autoformat's function of removing extra paragraph marks (empty paragraphs)? I need a second paragraph mark between paragraphs for spacing.

I would suggest setting the paragraph format to space after each paragraph, then there are no paragraph marks to cause the problem you are experiencing.

The problem is that the final document then goes to an automated legal system that requires the hard paragraph mark.

Sorry Dale, no solution, but am just curious to learn more about the automated legal system - it sounds awkwardly set up if it requires mis-styled Word documents in order to work right.

AutoFormat and AutoFormat As You Type have a lot of individual options. (I get to these lists using Tools|AutoCorrect and then clicking the relevant tab.) From briefly reading through them, I can't tell which one is kicking in and changing the paragraphs. I have Word 2000 and have not seen whatever new tricks are available in XP. If you (like me) prefer that Word not rearrange the document as you work on it, you can simply turn off all items you don't specifically want.
