    odd characters printing (Office 97)

    A friend finds that with each document, a page with odd symbols and then a listing of the document properties, title of the file, name of the owner and the following:
    {390E1707-A773-11D5-85D3-044AF8C00000}
    duplicated several times appears on the printed page, but not in the print preview.
    I suggested that he uncheck field codes, document properties, comments and hidden text in Print tab of Options. Still the same thing occurs. Any suggestions? Thanks for you rhelp in resolving this annoying problem! Libbie

    Sounds like the printer driver blew a fuse. Does this affect any other applications?

    I will have to ask him. I don't think so. He is not an informed computer user.
    Thanks for the suggestion.

    Also, check that your friend is not opening the file with the "Recover text from any file" option on.

    Gary, I will check this out. Could there also be a problem with normal.dot? The info that prints on the second page of his document seemd to be the doc properties, but with many repetitions of the iniformation. He is using WORD 8.0 .Libbie

    Gary, I am attaching the pages with all the information. When I saved these pages, the name came up as "normal". I thought that was odd.

    That's very typical of what appears at the end of a document opened using the "file type" Recover text from any file. Also, none of the text will have any formatting, and embedded objects, such as pictures, become large patches of nonsense characters.

    What was odd was that he said it did not appear on screen, only when printed. If he was mistaken about that, then he should check the file type drop-down in the File|Open... dialog to make sure he is not using the Recover text filter. If he already saved a document in this condition, though, it is not reversible and he will have to rely on a backup.

    Thanks. I am going to his house to see what I can do on Monday. I will check that out. As near as I know, it was a document that he created then saved to attach to an email. This has been happening with all the documents he has written. Will see if I can fix it. Libbie
