    Page Numbering (Word 2K)

Have I missed a patch somewhere?. Using the printers at the College where I teach, HP4050, the "Insert Autotext" feature Page X of Y works fine. On my home based printers, HP Laser 5L, Samsung ML 4500 and HP Deskjet 840C gives my Page 1 of 1, 2 of 2, 3 of 3 etc. Any ideas

Have you updated to SR-1? See WD2000: Incorrect SectionPages or NumPages Field When Printed (Q189175):

    SYMPTOMS
The result of the SectionPages field or NumPages field is printed incorrectly although it is displayed correctly on the screen.

NOTE : This problem occurs when the SectionPages or NumPages field is placed inside the header or footer. This problem also occurs when you use the Page X of Y AutoText entry.

    RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

To obtain SR-1/SR-1a, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

That's Word 2000, although your release is apparently younger than mine. Did you look at the page note in my earlier post?

Is it a problem that shows up in your printed documents or just in display?

Any chance that the fields are "locked?" What happens if you select them and press the F9 key?

    Re: Page Numbering (Word 2K)

Page numbering is OK in the Word document, and the preview (after a refresh via F9).
With some documents, it's works well sometimes, and sometimes not.
When I print them in reverse order, I get always the correct result (... at least up to now).

Do you think this can be due to documents generated with earlier version of Word ?

    Re: Page Numbering (Word 2K)

Sorry. The reason I asked whether you had read the article is because the person who wrote that article knows a lot more about page numbering than I do. I know enough to refer people to Page X of Y displays or prints as Page 1 of 1, Page 2 of 2 etc. and How to control the page numbering in a Word document.

Everything I know about page numbering is on those pages. I have no opinion as to whether or not it can be due to documents generated with an earlier version of Word.
