Data From Access To XL (XL97: SR2)

Is it possible to read an Access database table and have the contents dumped into multiple XL sheets within a workbook?

If so, how would the code look.

    Thanks,
    John

Just a thought to get you into a direction for a possible solution - have you considered MS Query and/or the Access Links add-ins with Excel?

It isn't clear whether you're trying to use Excel to read Access data or Access to insert data into Excel. As Mark says, you might want to consider using MSQuery from Excel to get the data out, which isn't a code solution.

I agree with the other replies - there might be a codeless solution, but you have to determine which way you want to get the data. It's possible to write VBA code in access to insert data into an Excel workbook, or you can write VBA code in Excel to fetch data from the database. The attached .ZIP file contains an Excel workbook and an example database. This approach uses VBA in Excel to get Excel to grab data from the database (one of many solutions). To get this kind of code to work inside Excel, you must set a Reference to DAO inside Excel's VBA IDE (or to ADO if you are coding it).

Look at the code, it will give you some ideas of how you may approach the problem.

I'm not familiar with MS Query although it sounds like a better way to go than XL. I'll have to investigate this feature further. Can you recommend documentation on how to use MS Query?

    Thanks,
    John

MS Query is all about importing data into Excel. I suggest you ask clippie with something like "ms query" (without the quotes, of course), or, failing that, look up Importing Data.

Maybe this is another opportunity for an article or two in WOWMM <img src=/S/brainwash.gif border=0 alt=brainwash width=15 height=15>
