Outlook is changing FROM e-mail address (2000 SR-1)

Our ISP, Cox Communications, changed from Roadrunner to just Cox for e-mail. We did the conversion yesterday and this morning. My husband and I are a 2-person LAN... I am the prime and his PC is a "node". For the next 1.5 months, we are to receive mail from both the OLD and NEW e-mail addresses

I made a distribution list to 70+ people and sent out my change notification without a problem. When John tried to do the same thing, he received an error message that "No transport provider was available for delivery to this recipient" for ALL the names on the list. I reviewed the settings with a more computer-savy neighbor and he said things were OK. He suggested that perhaps one name in the list is causing the whole list to be rejected.

I made and sent a distribution list to 5 people, an another to 9 people... success! The third list was sent to 13 people... same problem as before.

When I examined the e-mails in Sent Items, the ones that were successful were sent FROM the NEW address and the ones that were sent FROM the OLD address were not. But why would the program suddenly change the FROM address from John's NEW e-mail address to the OLD one????

When I look at my About Outlook, it says Internet Mail Only. John's About Outlook says Corporate or Workgroup... is this because he is the "node" and I am "prime"? Could this be a problem?

I am desperate... According to my neighbor, it is not a hardware problem and Cox won't support Outlook (only Outlook Express). I have been at this since 8:30 AM (now going on 6:00 PM)...AGH.... PLEASE HELP...

Thanks in advance, Georgette

In Outlook 2000 Corporate Workgroup mode, the FROM address is set under Tools | Services..., pick your Internet E-mail account(s) and update them. Log off and restart Outlook. Unlike Internet Mode, Outlook makes one account primary and all mail comes "from" that account. You could switch the mode on the second machine; some features are different, so without a whole heck of a lot more information, I can't advise doing it.

John's is corporate mode because that is how it was installed. You should be able to change it to internet mode.

I am using 2002 which did away with the corporate mode and I do not remember how to change it. But do a search in the help of Outlook for "Corporate mode" and/or "Internet mode", and the instructions should be there.

I have 4 computers on AT&T Cable and all are in the internet mode, and have been since Outloot 98. We do not have any problem but we also use a router, you must be using a 'Twisted pair' for your connection.

As for the new vs old, can you send from your OLD address. Normally at times like this, name changes, the old address can NOT be sent from, but you can receive mail for a time. You need to set things up to use ONLY the NEW address.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Dave,
We ARE on a router.

John changed to Internet mode, removed all LAN connections except for the new and old e-mail server accounts, made the new e-mail account the default, and I think that it is working. Cheers!!!!

Only time will tell; in the meantime thanks to you and to Jefferson for your words of wisdom. The Lounge is a great place!!!

Thanks again,
Georgette
