    Access 2000 Bloat

I've read on this forum and hear elsewhere that an Access 97 database that's converted to 2000 bloats.

Just curious, is there a known average percentage bloat? As an example, if I have a 100 MB database in 97 will it add say, 25% making the 2000 version 125 MB?

    Thanks,

    David

In my experience, it's often a huge increase in size, at least until the database is properly compacted. I've seen 40Mb 97 databases baloon to several hundred Mb when converted. Even when compacted, the databases stay larger than their 97 counterpart. You can reduce some of that by turning off the Name Autocorrect option, but the 2000 versions are always going to be bigger.
