Word Mail Merge with Excel data (2000 SR1)

When I create a mailmerge in Word using an Excel spreadsheet as my datasource, is there a way to have the mergefields bring the Excel data in exactly as it is formatted? For example, in my Excel spreadsheet I have some fields that use Strikethrough with the font...can my Word merge bring it in with Strikethrough?

Thank you very much for any help.

Word doesn't provide a switch that you can use with the merge field to force the formatting in the data source to be used. There is a workaround, using Word's conditional IF field. e.g.

    1. In your data source file, add another field called
