Page one of each section (xp)

Is there a way to get Word to suppress the display of the page number "one" on page one of every section of a document?

You don't say which version of Word, but it's much the same in each I think. Go to Page Setup on the File menu and choose the Layout section (a tab in Word 2000). Look for the bit about headers and footers and select 'different first page', then make sure that in the Apply to box it says 'this section'. Then you can choose to have no page number in the header or footer for the first page of the section, buit still have them in the subsequent pages.

    Hope this helps, Ian

    Thanks, Ian.

I tried with a new document to follow your advice and it worked perfectly.

In my working document, I had a page break and a simultaneous "continuous" section break. The solution you suggest was not working in that case, but I guess that would be asking a lot!

    Thanks!

The Page Setup dialog can reflect different settings for each section, so watch the "apply to" drop-down carefully. If your insertion point is in the section you want to change, and you apply to "This Section," it's pretty reliable.
