O2K - linesize reduced on replies (Office 2000)

When turning on 'Prefix each line with' for replies and forwards, the linesize is reduced to about 65 characters. This adds multiple unneeded returns to the email. Is there any way to adjust the number of characters per line?

Not that I can find. Outlook has to fix the line length at a certain number of characters in order to prefix each line with the indicated character. The only way that I know to change this is to turn off the prefixing (or "reply ticking", as it is referred to by Microsoft).

what are you using for the prefix? the default is 78. there is a known bug that linesbreak weird, it affects both outlook and express.

overall, yes you can change the line length, but the limit is generally 80 characters, for compatability with other mail programs. also, if you use exchange server, it can force the line length. i think the setting is in tools | options | mail format | internet button.

Hi Mary, thanks for your response (and thanks to you too, Gary). It appears to be only using about 65 characters. I'm using ">" as the line prefix. 80 was what I was imagining I would see. I don't remember it being this stingy in Office 97.
