    Changing default search engine (6.0.2600.0000)

    Is there a way to add vivisimo to the search engines so it can be selected as my default search engine when I click on the search icon?

    There are several ways, but I THINK the simplest is to click the "Customize" button on the upper right of the Search bar.

    There is also a registry hack that can change this. What search engine did you want to use?

    When I click on "customize," I'm offered a list of the Bill Gates Approved search sites. I want to use Vivisimo, and it's not on the list for "Find a Web page" so I'm pretty sure I have to do a registry hack.

    You might want to check with Vivisimo and see if somewhere there has the exact tweak for their engine.

    The sections of the registry that need to be modified are:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain]
    "Search Page"=""
    "Search Bar"=""

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerSearchURL]
    ""=""

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftInternet ExplorerSearch]
    "SearchAssistant"=""
    __________________________________________________ ___________

    BUT, you might need to know the correct entries for Vivisimo. For example, the registry patch that Google gives to its customers is this:

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain]
    "Search Page"="http://www.google.com"
    "Search Bar"="http://www.google.com/ie"

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerSearchURL]
    ""="http://www.google.com/keyword/%s"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftInternet ExplorerSearch]
    "SearchAssistant"="http://www.google.com/ie"
