    Multi win2k Boot

My machine is set up with 2 drives both with win2K- C is my sons (so he cant screw up my stuff) and D is mine. Boot.ini is set to show a menu to choose which one and is working fine. Had problem on weekend where sons drive didnt work and as boot.ini (and presumeably other boot "stuff" - he says getting technical :-} is on sons drive, mine wouldnt boot. Can I change the set up so my drive can be reset to be C and will boot if the normal drive C is out of action

This sounds like an open up the box situation. You will have to make the D drive the primary drive by firstly looking at the jumpers at the rear of the drive. Make sure they are set to Master. Then trace the cable from the back of the drive to the Motherboard. It will have to be positioned in IDE selector 1. You may also have to notify the CMOS that the harddisks have been changed unless they are already set to auto. Try booting up the machine and all going well it should boot to your hard disk.

Unfortunately, simple change of the jumper settings wouldn't work - you must have system (bootable) partition on the second hard drive. Since your system partition on primary master hard drive (your C: ) still works (otherwise you couldn't boot Windows at all) it is better to repair your son's Windows installation (insert Win2000 installation CD and reboot computer from that CD, than from the menu choose Repair Windows, on C: drive.

Thanks guys - I Knew the change to Master vs Slave wouldnt work cause I tried
Is there any way to get the boot process on Drive D (equivalent to the old copy system files process in DOS 3 onwards (yes I am getting old but dont rub it in) so I can disable C, change D to a master then boot successfully

Yes, there is - start your computer from Win2k Installation CD (or from 4-floppies set and then insert CD), and from Win2k Setup program choose "Repair Windows".

    Re: Multi win2k Boot

Aplogies.I don't think I was clear enough in my explanation and , (now I think about it), missed one obvious bit. I have my sons drive working again. What I was trying to do was get the boot process working on my drive in case it ever happened again.
Are you suggesting I do the repair on my drive rather than his and if so, am I right in assuming I need to remove his from the machine first. TIA
