unable to move or copy a folder (XP Pro)

I have come across a new (to me) problem- I regularly move folders from My Documents to my slave drives for storage. Have never had a problem before, but one folder is unable to be moved or copied. There is nothing that I can see that makes this particular folder any different from the hundreds I have moved/copied in the past.
I would be grateful for your collective wisdom on this oddity!

Re: unable to move or copy a folder (XP Pro)

Am using Explorer and am able to move all other files and folders from My Documents, either by cut and paste or the Move Folder function. It appears that this is the only folder which is a problem. The folder has a mix of IE pages, pdf and Word files, and the contents do not appear to differ from other folders which are behaving normally.
Error message: "Error moving file or folder."

turn on show all hidden files (tools | options | view) - is there a temp file in the folder?
Did you reboot and try immediately after rebooting?

Can you move individual items out?
Were any of the items created using a different logon?
Are you logged on as admin or a user?

The first group of questions is to determine if a program still has access to one of the files - the second set is looking at it as a permissions problem.

Re: unable to move or copy a folder (XP Pro)

I am logged in as administrator. Thank you for the advice re moving individual files.
I have managed to move the majority of files manually, and have that one subfolder contains a group of corrupted IE files. I am unable to delete them. Various error messages including "file name is too long" and "Access denied. Make sure that the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."
Any way to delete them? Have tried dragging to the Norton-protected Recycle Bin, but without success.

Are you moving them to a local drive, or to a network share somewhere?

    Click Start | Run, type:
    chkdsk /f
(assuming you have "My Documents" on C: drive) or
    chkdsk d: /f
(if you have "My Documents" on D: drive) and hit Enter.
If it prompts you to reboot, do it.
Hopefully it will fix errors on your hard drive.
