    XP Transfertext locking problem (XP)

I've got an application upgraded from 97 to XP. Most everything work fine except for one export button.

The code: DoCmd.TransferText acExportDelim,, stDoc, "C:x.txt", True

generate the error "Cannot update. Data source or object is read only."

A manual export of the file works great. A different export in the application works great.

    Any suggestions?

Maybe a solution on Q304146 or Q295200 form the Knowledge Base.

Does the file in question already exist? You'll have to kill it before you can export to a file of the same name. Is your machine set up to allow you to write files into the root directory?

The file doesn't exist when the transfer text tries to run.

Re: XP Transfertext locking problem (XP)

I am investigating the same problem going from 97 to 2000, getting the exact same error message. My main difference from you is that I am using acExportFixed with a specification. Also I am trying to export to a file with the name extension .DRA. I have fully investigated network access issues, since we recently converted to W2k as well as O2K. I am doing it quite simply onto a C: drive folder that I was able to create. I am able to create text files manually. I discovered from testing in the Debug window that it works if I simply change the name of the exported files to extension .TXT! Which helps me, but not you.

Now my problem is, how do I rename the file(s) I created? They HAVE to be named .DRA in order to use them.

    Use the NAME command.

I'd have to aggree with Pat - transfer your file as .TXT, then rename in VBA with the Name command.
