MOSearch (Office XP)

Just upgraded to Office XP and a new 60GB hard drive. I still have Win 98. I do not have a screen saver, but I have the power settings set to turn off the monitor after 15 minutes. One minute after the monitor shuts off, the disk begins to frantically do disk seeks, more even than during startup.

I figured it was Norton, so I used Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Tools | System Information, then used the Tools menu to start up the System Configuration Utility. On the Startup Tab, I unchecked all the Norton stuff, but that was not the problem. Finally discovered the problem. It was MOSearch which is in C:Program FilesCommon FilesSYSTEMMOSearchBinmosearch.exe. Unchecked MOSearch and now all is quiet!

My question. What is MOSearch? I figure it must stand for Microsoft Office Search, and because it is not on any other computed that I use, it must be an Office XP thing. What does it do? Why is it thrashing my disk? Do I need it? Can I fix it or should I just leave it off? TIA --Sam

MOSearch is the successor to FindFast, complete with all the same headaches.
