    Win98 Altenate Desktops

I have a friend whose husband just passed away. He had installed separate Desktops for her and himself, since she is a novice user and he was an expert. The problem is that now she needs some information he maintained, but does not know his password. I know how to bypass the password on login, and I know how to delete pwl files, but my question is does that give me access to all the folders he may have created? We are not finding, eg. names and addresses, and some private information she needs to make funeral arrangements and meet with her financial adivsor. I know there are utilities to get at password protected MS Office files if we need to, but am I seeing all there was there, or do we start looking for diskettes, etc. on backups? Is there something I'm missing. I never do this customized desktop stuff, just so my husband will not go through this!
Thanks for any help on this sensitive issue. As usual, MS is no help!

Never have done more than one desktop myself, but for starters:

    1. Go to Start/Settings/Folder Options and change the view to all files (as in the pic below). Not sure whether this might show some files/folders that were hidden with the other desktop or not, but maybe worth a try.

    2. Check the most recently used documents menu for files recently opened.

    3. Do a search for files with a modified date that includes the date he might last have used them. Start/Find/Files or Folders/Date tab

    4. Is there a favorite program he used? If so, do a search for files with that extension.

Thanks Michael for taking time to respond. Those all seem like very sound advice. I will follow through!
