    Internet Exploror crashing (IE5.00)

I keep getting invalid page faults in both module URLMON.DLL & module KERNEL32.DLL when using IE... for example if I paste a Url or use a link in another app to open a page. So I have to re-boot but the warning message is on screen and I can't close it, which means Ctl Alt Del doesn't work...so I have to switch power off and go through Scandisk...! [To be honest I can't figure out a definition of just when it dies on me...for instance I'm using it now & it's OK!!]
I'd quite like to re-install IE but ...
Any suggestions about this tiresome but unclear problem would be appreciated.

    I thought to uninstall

Make sure your hard drive is cleaned up and set IE to stay cleaned up:

If that doesn't work, I think I'd just upgrade to 6.0 if I were you--is there some reason you haven't yet? Six months ago, I'd have said *don't do it!*. But they appear to have fixed the problems.

You don't say what OS your using, but IE5 is certainly getting long in the tooth for any of them. Upgrade with the latest downloads to 5.5.
If you're using a dos-code based OS (95, 98, SE, ME) be prepared to find IE 6 temperamental. It's meant for NT code, and running it under anything else is a kludge at best, unworkable at worst. You could of course, simply get hold of XP - IE6 will work under that. Probably. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
