return from cross reference (Word 97)

    Hi,

I have cross references spanning to other pages (ranging about 300 pages), is there a way/short-cut key to return from the cross reference, to the point where we clicked the cross reference.
Some time it becomes annoying to browse back from 200th page to 5th or 6th page.

    thanx

Shift+F5 can be used to go back to the "previous" location in Word.
I haven't tried it extensively with cross references, but it is worth a try.

    Hi Hans,
    Thanx for replay,

But Shift+F5 is taking me somewhere and all in my document. As u expected its not working with Cross-reference properly.
    Any other option.

    Thanx

If Shift+F5 doesn't work, you might try the Back button on the Web toolbar (it automatically appears if I click on a cross reference), or its shortcut Alt+Num 4 (that is, hit 4 on the numeric keypad while holding down Alt).

I think Shift+F5 takes you to the last edit (and keeps going back for a total of 5 edits before cycling around to the most previous edit). That may not be the same as the last place you were when clicking the reference. What I've done, before knowing about the back button, was add an "xx" next to the word that has the link. Then I can use Shift+F5 to go back to where I came from and delete "xx".

But the Web back button is a good tool so I don't have to use the above anymore.

If the Back button works than the short cut key for that is ALT + left arrow.
