    Receiving Woody's WinXP Tips Newsletter (2000 (SR1))

Recently I'm having problems receiving Woody's WinXP Tips Newsletter. These are delivered in my Outlook 2000 Inbox as always but since recently I'm receiving the first few lines only...

E.g. the last one #2.19, I see (as HTML, including ad's and all) only upto third paragraph of the first article (this is the last I see: "...programmer at Danish firm Jubii A/S - has posted all 12 of them".
If I check the HTML source, that ALSO shows this as the last characters...
I recently upgraded to IE 6.026...

Anybody with a clue to what's been going on here??? is it outlook, is it IE6, is it me, is it my system???

    Thanks!

    EJ

PS1. If I forward the email to a colleage, he also receives only the first part. I've asked my colleague to subscribe to the newsletter too in an effort to be able to eliminate me and/or my system. Will keep you posted!

PS2. If I manually go out to www.wopr.com and have an archive sent to me as attatchment to an email, things work out fine...

It's not limited to that newsletter but it only affects a few people. I don't think anyone knows why. It seems to be something with IE6 that causes it to not render the html completely. I can't recall if the entire newsletter is in the message source or not.

Re: Receiving Woody's WinXP Tips Newsletter (2000 (SR1))

    Here's an update:
    # it also fails for the regular Windows newsletter (not only XP)
    # as indicated, there's not more HTML source than what I actually see (also when forwarded)
    # My colleague received the Windows newsletter intact today, forwarded to me and it is OK...

The last message seems to indicate (as we are connected to the same network):
    * It has nothing to do with our network and/or firefall
    * It has nothing to do with Norton AntiVirus or any corporate software
    * It doesn't seem to have anything to do with Outlook (also here, we have the same version)

    What's left is two things:
    * It's something undefined (yet)
    * It's IE6 (my colleague has IE5)

But here's (again) the strange thing:
    * If I receive via Woody's things are NOK
    * If my colleague receives via Woody's and forwards things are OK
    * If I ask for the archive to be mailed to me via Woody's, things are OK (but this comes as attachment I must admit)

    EJ

PS. For now I've asked my colleague to subscribe and setup some Outlook rules to automatically have the newsletters forwarded to me. I'll probably unsubscribe...

Oh, Stuart! Great, make me look TOTALLY pathetic!! I could not remember the solution I posted only a short time ago! <img src=/S/dizzy.gif border=0 alt=dizzy width=15 height=15>

I would think that would solve the problem.

I was confusing this with another IE6 problem. Maybe I have too many things on my plate...

I keep forgetting it too. But look on the bright side - it's not the solution for everyone. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Re: Receiving Woody's WinXP Tips Newsletter (2000 (SR1))

Sure looked like it after reading the post... I did what it said but.... couldn't read HTML emails at all anymore.... Started complaining about IE4 (!) needed to be installed to allow HTML emails.

Maybe we're on the right track however. Here's some info on my MLANG.DLL files:

The current version (IE6) which has a problem: 6.0.26
The one I originally swapped back (and didn't work): 4.72.311

I found an 'intermediate' one: 5.00.2919.6304 (probably my previous -working- one), will try that later.

you can't swap back to the really old ones. There is a fixed one at MS.

Yeah, but ideally you should have the 6.00.2600 version. Send me an email and I can send it to you. The file is too large to attach here.

Re: Receiving Woody's WinXP Tips Newsletter (2000 (SR1))

Thanks for your explanation, of course I'd like to have the latest and greatest version, it should work however...

Here's additional (?) info on my beta (??) MLANG:

    Modified: Friday, August 17, 2001
    Size: 561KB (574,976 bytes)
    File Version: 6.00.2600.0000

For the record: this is the version that did NOT work for me. If you / anyone has a newer / non-beta, let me know and I'll try.

Re: Receiving Woody's WinXP Tips Newsletter (2000 (SR1))

Well, it really should not. The problem is that you had the BETA version of that file. Here is the first line of my original post:

"This issue occurs because the Mlang.dll file for Internet Explorer 6 Public Preview for Windows 98 is incompatible with Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express 5, 5.01, and 5.5."

It is ONLY the mlang.dll file for the "Public Preview" of IE6 that is the problem. The actual file that came with the non-BETA version works fine.

HOWEVER, you certainly can choose to use the IE5 version of mlang.dll. This is essentially what Fred Langa recommended in his Newsletter. BUT... this would also mean that any updates that MS made in mlang.dll for IE6 will not be availble to you.

Therefore, you MAY get errors while using a DLL file that is incompatible with the IE6 executable file. Or you may not.

If is working fine now, then you may wish to leave it alone. But if you get any more problems, don't forget about this incompatibility issue...

Alternatively, if you did an overlay reinstall of IE6, the outdated DLL should be replaced with the correct one.

Re: Receiving Woody's WinXP Tips Newsletter (2000 (SR1))

Nope! I stand corrected and confused...

No one (that I am aware of) who installed IE6 (Gold) had the problem. Only those who upgraded from the "Preview" beta version. However, the mlang.dll I have (gold) is the same one you have (beta). So there is SOMETHING more to this issue. What, I do not know.

Do you know how to get the MD5 HASH for the file?

    MD5 checksum of "C:WINDOWSSYSTEMMlang.dll":
    f0 bc cc 04 08 81 4e bc 89 61 8a 65 84 ab c5 8c

It would be interesting to see if they are the same. BUT, given the same date and size, it is likely...
