File Sharing with 98 (Home Edition)

I have files shared on my 98 computer, and the folders are passworded. I access these files from my XP Home Computer. Still with me? Right, whenever I switch the XP computer on, I have to re-enter the password for that folder - in other words, the password isn't stored in the XP system. Is that normal for XP Home, or is my XP knackered somehow?

Knackered... <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>....like that one. No, this is normal behavior, unless you map a network drive to those shares.

XP is doing as it was told, when ever a folder is passworded a pasword is REQUIRED. If this is a home computer do you ned the folder to be passworded?
It should also happen on the 98 machine if it was trying to access a passworded folder on the XP machine.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Sorry about "knackered", it's a britishism Anyway, it does always ask for a password, true, but it also does it if the shared folder is mapped to a drive on the XP Computer. The first time I click the drive after the XP computer has been switched on, I get asked for the folder's password

As long as the folder is mapped, 98 will remember the password. I have passwords on the 98 folders just to make sure I have maximum security. Despite having firewalls in place, the computer is connected to the net so I like having that extra security there. XP Home folder's use a wonderful invention called "Simple Sharing", apparently, so they aren't passworded, merely shared.
