It says "C:/Program Files/Outlook Express/OEMIGSO.EXE is linked to missing export ADVAPI32.DLL Reg Override Predef Key"

Re: Outlook Express Error Message (Version 6)

Thank you very much for responding.
I did take a look at the article and ran the system file checker tool.
When I ran the tool, the ADVAPI32.DLL file did not show up.
Also, for clarification, the error message appears when I turn on my computer.
So ........ have I missed something?
Is it possible to download this ADVAPI32.DLL file from somewhere and if so how? and what do I do with it?

I appreciate your patience ........... JLade

Re: Outlook Express Error Message (Version 6)

You'll find it here at www.dll-files.com and I believe it needs to go into your windowssystem32 folder.

But something doesn't sound right about it. I don't want to be a scaremonger - but are you sure you haven't been hit by Klez? I've been hearing reports of it causing the strangest things. . . .

Re: Outlook Express Error Message (Version 6)

I think I'm free of the virus. So far, my virus program has been OK in detecting infected files.

I went to the website you mentioned ......... downloaded the file ........... unzipped it.

The only thing that appeared was a read me file. There was nothing to click on to open.

    Suggestions ??

It extracted OK for me - a readme.txt file and the dll file. How big was your downloaded zip file - 18K?

Re: Outlook Express Error Message (Version 6)

I discovered that the dll file was hidden and after checking the view all hidden files for the folder it did appear.

Now when I click on it to open it asks "Open with ..." I have no idea.

Could you help with this also?

I'm in over my head here and appreciate your patience.

    Thanks

Re: Outlook Express Error Message (Version 6)

If it is there that should be OK - you do not want to be running it by double-clicking it.
Is it the same size as the unzipped version?

Re: Outlook Express Error Message (Version 6)

Exactly. You don't need to be able to open it if you double-click on it. But, you may want to check the Properties sheet to make sure it is the correct version for your version of OE.

Then you need to move it to the Correct folder -- if you have not already.

Re: Outlook Express Error Message (Version 6)

    Good morning ......

The downloaded file ADVAPI32.DLL is 17.6 KB. After it is unzipped & open it is 40.5 KB. It is version 4.71.0118.0. The error message doesn't specify a version, just a file. However, I'm still getting the same error message.

I placed the opened file in the Program ExpressOutlook Express folder and the error message still happens.

I placed the opened file in the WindowsSystem32 folder and the error message still happens.

I placed the opened file in both of the above folders at the same time and the error message still happens.

What else do you think I should be doing? .............

Re: Outlook Express Error Message (Version 6)

This may be a registry error, then...

You might want to Search your registry for all instances of "ADVAPI32.dll". Look for an entry where OEMIGSO.EXE and ADVAPI32.dll exist in the same entry.

Alternatively, you could do it the other way around -- Search for OEMIGSO.exe and see what you get!

    But I must tell you:

I have OEMIGSO.EXE neither on my computer NOR in my registry. Furthermore, a search of Google and Microsoft turned up nothing about this file.

Re: Outlook Express Error Message (Version 6)

I just checked the registry for both OEMIGSO.EXE and ADVAPI32.dll.

OEMIGSO.EXE does not appear at all.

ADVAPI32.dll appears in a folder: ExplorerDoc Find Spec MRU.

    Is this a problem ??

Re: Outlook Express Error Message (Version 6)

MRU I believe stands for Most Recently used - in other words it is showing up as something you searched for recently.

The name OEMIGSO.EXE is unfamiliar, but may be a special file installed by the Original Equipment Manufacturer.
Or it may be some random name caused by a virus.
What anti-virus software are you running?
Did you check out the link for Klez I gave above?
Have you received any odd emails recently......

    Another quick question:

Have you rebooted your pc? If so, are you getting the same error message?
