    Registry tweak wanted

    Win95b.

Whenever I wish to rename a file in Explorer it takes around a second for the file name to change from a 'highlight' to 'edit' mode (this is about as clear as I can explain it without getting verbose).

Sure, I could use the right-click menu or 'Alt-File-Rename' but this is what I'm used to. I don't have this problem on my home machine (W2K). I just want to point at the file name, wait a fraction of a second, then type the new name.

Does anyone know of a registry tweak to speed this up a bit? I've looked all through TweakUI and the IntelliPoint mouse software, but to no avail.

    Thanks

Are you talking about double clicking the filename - obviously slower than a double click so as not to open it?
Does hitting F2 with the file selected work for you?

    That's the one.

F2 works, but I wondered if there might be the ability to speed up the 'edit file name' (FWOABP) operation, similar to the Menu Speed section of TweakUI or the double-click speed option in Control Panel/Mouse.

    Thanks Leif.

Not sure that I can help anymore, I don't have a W95 machine to poke around in at the moment.

However, in my W2K registry, there is this key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelAccessibilityKeyboard ResponseDelayBeforeAcceptance
    with a setting of 1000.
    ???

    'Fraid not.

    Thanks for the suggestion though.
