Style indents (2000)
The heading paragraph indents in my template are all set to 0, however when I go into documents with the template applied, strange things happen.
I have Auto-update styles turned on.
First, the headings 4 and 5 were all mysteriously indented by 0.8. No matter how many times I went to fix it, they always went back to .8, even though the template says 0. This is only happening in a few documents.
Then it started happening to headings 2 and 3... all being indented by 0.8. The styles that these headings are based on are all set to 0 indent.
Now my heading 2 is indented by 2.71, my heading 3 is indented by 4.29, and my heading 4 is indented by 5.25.
Anyone have any ideas about this?

Start by turning Auto-update styles off. If you are applying numbering to your heading styles, you need to learn bunches more because this involves the interaction of styles and numbering templates.
What you are describing sounds like the Jason Tab effect.
