Virus w32.Benjamin.worm

Iam running Win 98SE and Netscape 4.76. I use Norton 2002. Did a full virus scan on Tuesday(21st) and everything was clean. When I booted up yesteday (22nd) there was a notice that my computer was infected with
W32.Benjamin.worm. To locate it I did another full scan and it showed up in folder C/Windows/Temp.sys32. There were 3157 infected files. Many of which I had never heard of and later coul;d not find many of them in my system. Norton said it could NOT REPAIR and reccommended Quarantine, which I did. I then tried to DELTE them from the Quarantine file but was unable. I could not get back into the computer after a reboot, just kept getting notices of all these infected files. Fortunately I have hard drives mounted in removable bays and went to an uninfected H/D and did a Ghost to the bad H/D and was able to clear out the bugs. Even after an update of Norton they still did not show that virus in their list. Could this have been a Dormant worm that did not activate until the 22nd? Can't figure out from whence it came. Any ideas or comments appreciated. Meanwhile BEWARE!!

Does this sound like it?

W32.Benjamin.Worm

Nothing there about the 22nd, but it is relatively new. There are some removal instructions at the site linked to above.

You are using one of the best if NOT the best AV, BUT, if you do NOT go for the updates it will not do you any good as you just found out. Norton's relesed 2 updates on the 21 and 22. I check for updates daily and every one should. My system has been hit 5 times today and Norton's was there and got them as it is designed to.
So for what ever AV one is using, do NOT trust the Auto update, do it your self and know that you are protected.
Just my worth of rant.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Edited by WyllyWylly on 23-May-02 21:46.
The Virus"w32.Benjamin" was created by this @#$!% called:PAUL KOMOSZKI(probably an alias).
It`s spreads over the KaZaa Fast Track Network,by impersonating a music or movie-file.
It put`s a number of copies of itself on the infected HD,wich are then downloaded by other users of the fast track network.
The problem, with this worm is that it goes by many different names see here: http://www3.ca.com/virus/virus.asp?ID=11901
Now,the "so called"reason this worm(A Worm creating a Worm!!!) was created is to disrupt the distribution of pirated software and child pornography.
See here:http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/17823
Now any sane person agrees that child pornography should be eliminated from the internet.
And so must the ANIMALS that download this filth.Infact they should be eliminated period!!!
But this is NOT the way to do so.
This is like shooting 10 innocent by-standers to catch a psychopath.
Last time i,checked there where almost 2.000.000 users online.
No,i,think the real reason is that movies that haven`t even premiered yet,can be downloaded days, sometimes weeks before.
