    Win98SE minimizing windows

One of my "old" computers is a 486, 366?mhz, with a 56K dialup, that I use as a "spare" but has developed a problem with minimizing windows. If there is a common demoninator for this, I havent been able to find out. No matter what program I use, if I minimize the window, the computer locks up totally. Not even ctrl+alt+del works. Any ideas? If this clue helps.. When I open just about any program, it brings up the dialup window. I click cancel and it works okay until I minimize any window. After making this one my "old" computer, I used the "free" services (Netzero, Juno) for dialup connections. Thanks for any help.

    First, I'd clean it up.

Have you tried running AdAware from Lavasoft ?? It's a free utility that will ferret out any spyware that is trying to call home and report in and remove all traces of it from your system. I'd guess that it's probably something left behind by one of your "Free" ISPs.

Thanks DocWatson for that tip. The issue is moot now since (for other reasons) we just reformatted. HOWEVER, that is a good point that I'd forgotten. We DL'd some sort of ad blocker at one point and I wonder if that could've had something to do with it. It sounds plausible to me, but why would the dang connect window pop up by opening the Windows Explorer? Sheesh... I have a love/hate relationship with 'puzzles.' Once I get started on one, I have to find the answer or it drives me nuts! This one I'll have to forget though since the pieces have gone *poof*!
