    Linking Jpegs (97 SR2)

I have had a look at the archives and have seen that this question has been asked in various ways but hasn't quite answered my problem.

I have been asked to produce a database that will have a table of houses and their details (age, no. of bedrooms address etc) There is a requirement for a picture of the property to be shown which will either be internal, external or both. I have seen a nice database from one of the Lounge members which on the surface looked great as it allowed me to search for an image on my hard drive, select it and then place it in an unbound box on my form. I have set this up now so that there is a one-many relationship as there maybe more than one photo. (www.lebans.com-----LoadJpegGif.zip). The jpegs are then embedded in a table as an ole object.

As I will have 5,500 property records and the possibility of a max of 11,000 photos you can see my database is going to bloat somewhat. Is there an example db out there or is there a simple way that I can just have a table of references that just link to a set of jpegs sitting on my hard drive without the necessity of embedding the images into a table? or do I have to live with this.

Format as hyperlink and use path instead. However, you'll want to determine what image editor to use. By default, I think, is PhotoEditor.

You shouldn't embed the pictures in your table. Just put the path and file name in a text field.

On your forms and reports, put an unbound image control, and set the Picture property of this control in the OnCurrent event. That way, you can keep the pictures on your Hard Disk, outside the database.

    See Q148463 in the KnowledgeBase.

Hans's suggestion is the way to handle it in Access. I posted an Access 97 sample here that will show you a way to reference and display images in a database.
