    systray (xp home)

XP cannot get itself to be consistent in showing the icons on the systray. Sometimes a couple, sometimes more. And these are programs that normally put up an icon that the system says it has started, and appear as checked in the list of Sys Config.

Is there a fix for this? (Maybe later we can discuss the stability of the desktop icons. They appear almost willy-nilly on the screen, no matter what I set the desktop properties to be.)

Right click the task bar and check out "Hide Inactive Icons".

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Regarding the desktop icons, I wonder if you're aware that some of the icons on a desktop are in the current user's configuration and some might be in the "all users" configuration settings. That'll cause their arrangement to look strange. Also, check out our thread in this forum on "To Stick Or Not To Stick."
