    default bullets & numbering format (2000 SR1)

How do I change the default behavior of a numbered list in Word? Can I avoid setting up a style? I'd like to have no indents when I create a numbered list, and not to have to go into customize it on each new document right now. I know I'll probably want to make a change on normal.dot, but what?

    THANKS!

    Angela,

The consensus is that numbered lists behave more reliably if you associate them with styles.

If you create a template upon which you base your new documents, then you only have to set up the styles and numbering once, in the template - then when you create new documents based on this template, you get the styles and numbering ready-made.

When creating a customized template for this purpose, you should create a new template, rather than use Normal.dot. If you look on this forum for posts by Charles Kenyon, you will see links to his site where this is some information on creating templates.
