    Word deletes Text (Word 2000 SR1 + 2002 SR1)

Hi folks, I hope you can help me!

We're experiencing a strange behavior with word 2000 and XP the last few weeks. Some of my colleagues called me and said that word has deleted their work. I stoped by their office and saw that word has replaced a bunch of paragraphs with characters like

Check In the File/Open dialog box, under files of type, and see if it says "Recover any text", rather than Word docs, all files, or similar.

I shouldn't think any compatibility options would be involved.

If it's not the "Recover any text" issue, then it just may be file corruption. This is (I think) the fourth report like this (including one by me) here in the past six months.

We still haven't been able to track down what caused it although it's happened less at my firm lately. One recommendation that was given to us by an outside consultant was to ensure that graphics/video/print drivers are all up to date. We are also being more careful not to run documents with 'mixed compability' i.e. the document (originally created using 97) had compatibility set to Word 97, but its related template (more recently updated) had its compatibility set to Word 2000 - another thing we were advised to avoid.
