    Decimal won't display (XP)

In a table, I want a field to display clock-hour credit for course completion. Some courses carry 0.5 hour credit. In design view, I set up the field as a number with one decimal place. In datasheet view, when I enter "0.5," it won't display the .5--all I see is zero-point-zero. What am I missing here?

What type of number is the field? It should be Single or Double precision.

Are you sure you didn't set it up as a percentage?

I'm quite sure I don't have it set up as a percentage, but I'll check when I get back to the project.

I think maybe Hans has touched on my problem. I don't have access to the project at this moment, but I think I formatted the field as an integer or long integer. I suppose that bit of information will tell you I'm still a beginner at Access--I still don't understand the distinctions among number formats: single, double, integer/long integer.... What is it about single or double that will solve this problem? (Not only am I still trying to learn Access, but math was not my strong suit either!)

    Thanks for the help!

From VB help in Office 97, the most common numeric data types are:

    <table border=1><td>Type</td><td>Memory usage</td><td>Range</td><td>Byte</td><td>1 byte</td><td>0 to +255</td><td>Integer</td><td>2 bytes</td><td>-32,768 to +32,767</td><td>Long</td><td>4 bytes</td><td>-2,147,483,648 to +2,147,483,647</td><tr><td>Single</td><td>4 bytes</td><td>

Wow! Thanks! I'd spent considerable time trying to unearth a chart like this one in Access XP Help. Now that I've seen the chart you sent, I was able to dig it up. (The hard part seems to be knowing or guessing just where the "bodies are buried.") Thanks a million, Hans and Francois!
