    Re: Deploying Word 2000 Templates

    http://www.vif.com/users/cgreaves/download/setup033.zip

Try that. That should get you a PKZip25 file containing Setup033.dot.

Please read the notes (text) in the template itself before using it. I have temporarily disabled the auto macros, so that you can run it by hand (single-step).

It works for me. I use a 5-character generic name for all my templates, thus Under214.dot, Under215.dot, Under216.dot and you will find in the Public module an integer constant to modify this length. I have to rationalize addins on the fly. I might have Under214.dot in my startup, and I'm installing Under215.dot. SetUp should know this, disable Under214 and install Under215. Likewise I should be able to replace the Utils.dot of Dec15th2003 with a later date Utils.dot of Dec16th 2003.

    Basically:

I drag one or more templates to be installed into a folder "Installation", which already contains a "SetUp.dot" (note, without the version number).
    Setup's job is to:
' Check that I am the only instance of WORD
' Temporarilt Disable any conflicting Addins
' Determine my SOURCE of templates
' Obtain the LIST to be installed
' If the LIST is empty, exit
    ' Determine the STARTUP folder
' Determine my TARGET for templates (default to STARTUP)
' If TARGET = SOURCE no need to move anything
' ELSE move each template from SOURCE to TARGET
' Rename all but the latest (number, date) version of each item
    ' Rationalize any conflicting Addins
' If no Utils.DOT in STARTUP, tell the user.

I've been using it as a drag-and-drop one-click installation procedure for about four weeks now, up to twenty times a day. (I was upgrading utils.dot and a slew of other apps over the holiday break)
If you didn't need to confirm the Startup path, you could even do away with the click.

I hope that this all makes sense. Post here if it doesn't.

OK. Just remember it was written to deploy MY templates, naming conventiosn etc.

If you'd like a couple of aps to install, just the way a client would, let me know and I'll attach them to an email.
