    Hiding images (Word 2000)

We have two graphic images in a document: one in the first page header, and the other in the primary footer. I'd like to hide them from the printer, but I'm not successfull at isolating those particular images. I'm not finding the object under the header/footer object. I can hide the range of the entire header or footer, but not just the images. Why might I lookd for?

    Thanks, Richard Barrett

If you put the images in line with text, you can do it. Once the image is in line with text, select the image, then choose Format>Font and choose Hidden. Then go into Tools > Options. On the Print tab, make sure that in the Include with Document section that the Hidden text option is NOT selected.

This is what I have done for this before. Let me know if it doesn't work.

Images should be included in either the Shapes (drawing layer images) or InlineShapes (images inline with text) collections. That said, I'm not sure there is a "hide" method for a shape object.

You can hide a shape object by hiding the paragraph to which it is anchored.

If you use Tools>Options-View and select the checkbox for Object Anchors then you can drag the anchor to an otherwise empty paragraph. If you now set the font for this paragraph to be Hidden the object will also be hidden.

Thanks for your reply. I'm doing this with VBA, and I want to select the image, but NOT the text. In other words, I'm looking for the object hierarchy to get to the pictures in a header/footer.

Yes, I feared that would be my next problem. Text can be hidden, but I want to exclude text from my selection.

Thanks. This may do it for me.... I can select the paragraph by its index, which I will know.

You can also prevent shapes from printing just by going to Tools/Options/Print tab & making sure that "Drawing Objects" is not ticked under the Include with document section.
