    converting databases (2.0/2000)

I looked thru the archives and didn't find a solution to my problem.
And I looked at the Knowledge Base at microsoft.

I have been converting the 2.0 databases that we use to 2000.
This one database sometimes hangs during conversion and when it does finish there are only macro names with no code.

The size of the original databae is just under 15 mb and when its converted to 2000 it grows to 27mb.

    Any ideas?
I made a copy of the orginal 2.0 database because people are using it daily. I have tried to convert it two ways.
    1. Open the database and when prompted to convert or just open - I convert.
    2. Open access first. Tools>database utilities>convert database and then find it.

Both give me the increase bulk and no macro code.

    Thanks for any help.

I don't know why it is not converting the macros. If you can, you might want to try first converting to Access97, then to 2000. Have you tried to just import the macros into your 2000 database?

As to the growth in the size of the database, that is normal. For one thing, Access2000 uses Unicode, which requires 2-bytes of storage per character vs. the 1-byte per character of earlier versions. So, any text data fields, all your code, label descriptions, etc., take up twice as much room.

... Just a SWAG - Does the older database being converted Compile without errors?

Empty macros or empty modules? Unfortunately, Access 1.0 started down a different road from the rest of Office by having something entirely different that it called macros. It gets confusing when it isn't clear which one is being referred to.

It sounds like something isn't compiling in the old database, but even if it all compiles in Access 2.0, Access Basic (Access 2.0) is a far different animal than Access VBA (A95 and later). If at all possible, try Mark's suggestion of converting to A97 first. That is what Microsoft recommends as well.
