Macro madness - Security (OfficeXP, WXP)

Fairly suddenly, I've started getting alerts about macros whenever I open Outlook or Word. Even more curious, when I open Outlook and enable macros, Word then opens as well, and also queries me regarding macros.

I have macro security set to medium, and also use Norton AntiVirus. Any ideas?

    TIA,
    Michael

that's standard behavior with medium and unsigned macros. did you add the macros to the programs? To refresh your memory, hit alt -F11 whne in each app and you can see what macros it's fussing about.

There's a template, WFWRDK2.dot that contains macros that's upsetting Word, And the only place that is listed in "trust sources" is Adobe.

Try doing a Find for the file, and temporarily move it to a different folder - say - on your desktop. Then start Outlook to see if you get the same issues.

If you DON'T encounter the problem, then keep working for a week or two. If you still don't encounter any problems, I'd say you're safe to delete the file.

WFWWord2k.dot is the add-in template placed in the startup folder by WinFax 10.0.

If you delete it or move it, you will not be able to send a fax from Word.

Can't you disable the "office plug-in" in NAV?

Do you really want NAV examining EVERY document/template every time you open Word or Outlook?

No sense in keeping the macro around if you don't use it (and few people use it) - you can still print to winfax, using file | print. It can also be selfsigned and trusted if he plans to use it.

Yes - you really should have NAV scanning every document and template, if you ever open documents other people used. (NAV scanning is more useful than the WF tamplate.)

The Office plug-in in NAV should be disabled. It adds no protection as long as NAV's AutoProtect is enabled, files will be scanned.

    Howard,

Do you know if there's anyway to mark a specific DOT or DOT folder as excluded from the Office Plug-in Real-time scan?

Or from the Normal Auto-Protect scan?

I have a user that's getting Word crashes when loading one of my applications and I'm sure it's because the Office Plug-in is choking on it.

Of course. I was asleep at the wheel. The macro just makes it one click.

    Nuke it.

Just disable the plug-in, it serves no function as long as AutoProtect is enabled.
