Old Address Book?? (Outlook Express 6)

I just installed Win XP, which installed Outlook Express 6. That's ok, except I thought I was only installing onto my new blank HD. It also installed on my old crowded HD -- and overwrote the address book in Outlook Express. Now I can't import that address book, because it's gone.

Might it have gotten saved anywhere in the installation process?

XP will not insall on a hard drive unless told to. It also can NOT install on two drives at the same time. Did you have a failed install and then try it again?

What steps did you take to get it installed to the new blank hard drive?

Did you do a clean install on the new drive or did you try to do a upgrade?

Tell us more about your system.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Old Address Book?? (Outlook Express 6)

I installed XP as an upgrade to the C: drive, but the drive was brand new and the only thing on it was Win 98 with no other applications. So, I guess it was as clean as an upgrade could be. I know a straight XP install would have been best, but $100 is $100.

I don't think I told it to instll to the D: drive (the sloppy old one). In fact, I don't recall the issue coming up at all, and I was watching for it. But, accidents happen.

Definitely was not more than one installation -- took first try, and has been running very nicely.

Definitely does have OE 6 with current settings on the old sloppy hard drive, tho. If I go into the folder on the D: and launch OE from there, I get OE6, with my new ISP mail address instead of OE5. Very strange.

System itself is a new AMD Athlon xp 1800+ with a Maxtor 40gb HD as primary and a 3 year old Maxtor 10gb slaved, 512 mb ram, various bits and prieces that probably aren't relevant. System started out as a Gateway PII 400 that died a bizarre death.

    Thanks, Bilyam
