AutoCorrect Entries - Storage Location (XP)

I am trying to figure out where XP is storing the autocorrect entries so I can manually make some modifications and roll the modifications out to 100s of users. I cannot find an ISO file on my hard drive nor applicable registry entries. I certainly don't want to laod the support.dot file that MS recommends to do this. Anyone know?

As far as I know, most, but not all AutoCorrect entries are stored in .acl files. However, a single user can have several because they are language-specific. Also, some can be in normal.dot.

I would recommend using the utility on the MVP FAQ website, not the support.dot file. Otherwise, if you want to do it manually, information to do that is there, as well.

Sounds simple-minded, but you could always add a new AutoCorrect entry and then run a hard drive Find for to locate the latest modified file.

Re: AutoCorrect Entries - Storage Location (XP)

The autocorrect list file location depends on the client OS. If the OS is Win9x the file is located in c:windows and is named "username.acl". If the OS is Windows 2000 the file is located down the "Documents and Settings" folder and is named msoxxxx.acl where xxxx is the language identifier. So, if the user is Joan and the language English, the file is:

    "Cocuments and SettingsJoanApplication DataMicrosoftOfficemso1033.acl"

This location can be changed in the registry. I change the location to the user's LAN home folder so that roaming users have access to their list without having to be dependent on the Windows Roaming profile.

If an autocorrect entry has any formatting (bold, etc.) it is stored in the user's Normal.dot.
