    Renaming Column Headers (Office 2000)

I am wondering if there is a way to rename the columns from A, B, C to things like Date, Template Name, etc. I know there is a way to freeze a row so it shows up at the top of the spreadsheet but I would like to rename the entire column so I can have row number one actually be row one. For some reason I have it in my head that there is a way to do this but I can't think of how to do it or find it in "help" ha!

    Thanks! And if I'm totally crazy and this can't be done then please tell me (I'm crazy... ) <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    No can do AFAIK.

But if you can sacrifice the first row, then with some named ranges and some formatting you can do what you want to do. The Headers of the columns are not user-serviceable. They are part of the application. the maximum you can do is change them to R1C1 style, but this is not want you want.

    Sorry.

Wassim is correct, and also note that if you insert the headings you want in the first row, you can set them as heading in the Page Setup dialog under Sheet, Rows to Repeat at Top, then to turn off Row and Column headings, in the same dialog uncheck Row and Column Headings.

If you have access to Access (sorry), a standard table will do what you want. If you're unfamiliar with Access, and your project is time-critical, though, just live with creating a header row in Excel.

    Best of luck!
