    installing laptop Hard drive

I'm trying to install a new IBM 20gig h/d on my gateway 9300. First installed it on another machine did an NTFS format and loaded W2k and it worked fine. When I insert it in the Gateway, the BIOS appears to recognise the drive but goes to a flashing cursor and that's it.

Can anyone advise what to do next?

    TIA

    Re: installing laptop Hard drive

Go ahead and make sure the BIOS is set to "auto" for the HDD. You may want to boot to a floppy first. Since you created a NTFS partition you will need to use a NTFS created boot or ERD. One other thing that I have run into frequently. Make sure the cable is properly installed on the HDD. The red line on the ribbin cable should be closest to the power connection on the hard drive.
