    Simple formula query (2000 SR1)

I have a column with text strings of varying length. Can anyone tell me a formula for removing a set number of characters from the lefthand (or righthand) side.

I know this is a trivial query but I'm a bit of a novice at this.

If your string is in a1, =RIGHT(A1,LEN(A1)-5) will remove the five characters on the left of the string and =LEFT(A1,LEN(A1)-5) will remove the 5 characters on the right of the string.
