Accessing Outlook address book in Word (XP pro SP1)

[I posted this in the Word thread as well, but got no replies so thought I'd try here to see if I had any more luck!]

When I click on 'Address book' under either 'Envelopes and Labels' or 'Letter Wizard' in Word, I get the following error messages:

'Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client.' On clicking OK, this error appears:

'Logon failed. You must log on to Microsoft Exchange to access your address book. Error code: "Unspecified error".'

I only use MS Outlook, which definitely IS the default mail application (and default for contacts, etc), I only have one Outlook profile, I don't use MS Exchange (am not on a network), my contacts folder is listed as the (only) Outlook address book (MAPI) in 'Tools>Accounts>View or change existing directories or address books' in Outlook, and when I click address book in Outlook it works perfectly. Does anyone have any ideas what has caused this, or what to do about it? It is a bit annoying, because it is impossible for me to access my contacts from Word (other than via the WOPR Popup Contacts list, which works perfectly - could this be the problem?).

    Thanks for any help!

Our environment doesn't match yours hardly at all, so this may not help. But we saw this error on some PCs that did not have Outlook Express installed. Installing it fixed the problem. This could be the OLXP address book security feature coming into play too, but I haven't seen these specific messages before.

Cheers, OldDog, but I do have OE installed so I don't think this is related. Anyone else out there had similar problems, or know of a solution?

I just tried it here and had a similar - but not identical - error.

However, if I right_click on Contacts in Outlook folder view, select properties, then select the "Show this folder..." (as below) it does show up in Word.

Otherwise, one of these may help:

WD2002: "Operation Could Not Be Completed Because of Dialog or Database Engine Failure" Error Message When You Try to Perform a Mail Merge (Q322215)
WD2002: Cannot Use the Insert Address Button to Insert Outlook Business Address in Word (Q290980)
OL2002: Outlook Address Book Does Not Display All the Contacts in Word (Q301447)
