    Using MAPI (VB6)

I wrote an application where I used the Outlook object to automate Email functions. I now need to write a similar application for an environment that uses GroupWise 5.5 (a Novell Product). How would I do this, or I guess what I'm really asking is can this even be done outside of Outlook?. I am assuming there would be a MAPI driver somewhere that I would use, but would I set a variable reference to this object and use it just like the Outlook object?

I'm attaching a text file that contains code for sending mail through groupwise and was created by someone struggling to do it from Access. You should be able to adapt it without too much trouble.

My God, Charlotte, you are incredible.

This worked, but left me with an open email that still required the user to click on the Send button. I wanted to ask here before sending an email to the author (that is listed as part of the code). There is a Send event with the Message object, but there is obviously more too it because even after running all the above code, it errors saying it needs a recipient list (which I provided, of course, in the initial call of the sub). Does anything leap out at you as far as automatically sending the message without the user having to take the additional step of clicking on Send?

<img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15> Don't give me any credit! I'm just a packrat and stashed the code away when I came across it a couple of years ago. I can't even remember if it was from the old Lounge or from one of the lists I am/have been involved with. I had seen questions about Groupwise here and there, and we were saddled with it in my last position, so I figured it would be a good idea to save that code. I've never tried it, have never programmed to use Groupwise, and have been mercifully free of Groupwise and Novell for nearly a year now. (Hi, my name is Charlotte and I used to use Groupwise! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>)

I just hope the email address is still valid so you can get some assistance. I changed the subject line so it might attract someone who actually knows something about Groupwise.

Thanks, Charlotte. And I'm not giving you any credit that you don't deserve! And HA, I'm glad you were able to get the GroupWise monkey off your back. . .I'm wishing I can make that same claim.

The author's email address was not only valid, but she replied with an updated version of her code, which I'll post here as an attachment. She wasn't able to resolve the issue of automatically sending the email.

Though not as functional, I created a class module out of the original code that does accomplish the send transparently. I haven't figured out how to get the cc and bcc to work, but it does what I need it to do. I will post both versions in hopes that someone else going through the GroupWise 12 step program can find it useful.

And here is the COM component I created (just needs to be renamed to a .cls).

    Thanks for sharing, Mike. I think you've paid your dues for this month, at least. <img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15> Now about *next* month ... <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
